A Class Beyond First

Distinguished Business Leader,
Mr Stephen Lee

The audience waited in anticipation as Mr. Stephen Lee stepped onto the stage at the Shanghai JW Marriott Ballroom. More than 230 Overseas Singaporeans, professionals and students had come to meet the Chairman of the world’s most admired airline. After reliving the memories of SIA’s humble beginnings and the challenges it faced in the early years, Mr. Lee was proud to share that SIA had recently made aviation history by being the first airline to operate the world’s largest commercial aircraft.

Stephen Lee

Mr. Lee showcased glimpses of SIA’s latest pride – the A380 – and demonstrated the rejuvenating spirit of innovation through the design of the cabins, products and services. This paralleled Singapore’s success story in many ways. Mr Lee remarked that the same innovative spirit was evident in Singapore’s efforts to remaking herself to be more vibrant and competitive.

Overwhelming response from Overseas Singaporeans in Shanghai

The crowd participated actively in the Q&A session when they sought Mr. Lee’s views on issues ranging from fuel hedging strategies, possible alternative fuels, SIA’s investment decisions and expansion plans, potential changes in China Eastern Airlines, to SIA’s ability to sustain its competitiveness in the aviation industry.

The audience was impressed with Mr. Lee’s astute comments and sound judgement of the varied issues of interest. Starved for more, the attendees continued to solicit discussion with Mr. Lee during the dinner reception. The evening could go on forever as Mr. Lee obliged to engage every inquisitive mind. But all good things would have to come to an end. Despite the conclusion of this rare opportunity, the trinity of SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE AIRLINES and THE SINGAPORE GIRL, would continue to captivate the world’s attention long after the last guest had left.
