Distinguished Business Leader,
Mr Richard Seow

Some 170 Overseas Singaporeans made their way to London’s Royal Garden Hotel on 9 May 2008 to meet fellow Singaporeans and hear first-hand from Mr Richard Seow, Chairman of Parkway Holdings Limited. This marked the 14th DBL event organised by the Overseas Singaporean Unit, and also the fourth held in London. In a candid address, Mr Seow shared personal anecdotes on his education in the UK as a young boy, his family’s move back to Singapore, and his love for sports especially rugby.

He also related the challenges he faced in searching for his first job, his subsequent hard work and his many roles within the investment banking sector. He told the audience how he decided to take a break to refocus on his key priorities and passions in life, which included his family, sports and helping other people.

The audience was amused when Mr Seow related how, after his 16 years as an investment banker (and before his new role at Parkway Holdings), his daughter had filled up a form informing her school officials that his job had changed to ‘rugby coach’.

The audience was amused when Mr Seow related how, after his 16 years as an investment banker (and before his new role at Parkway Holdings), his daughter had filled up a form informing her school officials that his job had changed to ‘rugby coach’.

After 14 months of self reflection, Mr Seow’s desire to make a difference to people’s lives guided him to enter the healthcare industry. Mr Seow shared how Parkway Holdings had grown since he became Chairman in 2004. For example, the company had seen a doubling of its market capitalisation. Parkway Holdings continues to grow in various markets across Asia and will continue to recruit healthcare workers and professionals. Mr Seow’s assessment was that the healthcare industry will also continue to grow in Singapore, particularly in medical tourism.

Overseas Singaporeans were keen to hear Mr Seow’s views on the hiring of foreign talent, Parkway Holding’s growth strategy and the company’s contribution towards corporate social responsibility, among others. Questions continued over dinner, as OS engaged Mr Seow over bowls of laksa and Hainanese chicken rice.

Stay tuned when the DBL Series makes it way to the UK again in the Fall!
