Distinguished Business Leader,
Mr Allen Lew

The Overseas Singaporean Unit (OSU) organised Melbourne’s fourth Distinguished Business Leaders Series featuring Mr Allen Lew, CEO Singapore, Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel). Approximately 170 Singaporeans living, studying and working in Melbourne turned up for a fascinating evening with Mr Lew as he shared with the audience thought-provoking ideas on personal empowerment, inspirational leadership and organisational excellence.

Encouraging the audience to “dream big,” Mr Lew’s opening video showcased SingTel’s transformation from an incumbent telecommunications provider into a multimedia giant. Using the theme of transformation, Mr Lew dished out practical wisdom on how one could become an inspiring leader and create a strong team in one’s organisation.

Mr Lew introduced the acronym S.P.I.C.E., each letter standing for a guiding principle one could apply to achieve professional success: Inspiring leaders must have a well-defined Strategy, maintain a strong focus on their People, strive to Innovate, differentiate their services to Customers and motivate their people into Executing action. He gave examples of how SingTel used these principles to motivate its young employees and embrace experimental failures during the company’s pursuit of innovation.

Besides sharing recipes for success, Mr Lew also highlighted Singapore's achievements and exciting developments. In addition, he provided insights on the opportunities available in and growth potential of SingTel, Singapore and the Asian region.
