Singapore Community Day
Sat, 28 Feb 2015, 11am – 4pm
(22801 Big Basin Way, Saratoga, CA 95070)
To be held in Silicon Valley, Singapore Community Day is an SG50 celebration by the Singaporean community for the Singaporean community in San Francisco and Singaporeans in neighbouring cities and states on the US West Coast. Come together as one and celebrate Singapore’s 50th birthday by penning your wishes and hopes for Singapore on the Wishing Wall or designing and colouring one of the huge SG50 canvases to what you associate with home.
Organised by Singaporean community association SingaporeConnect and the Overseas Singaporean Unit (OSU), the event will be a fun-filled day for every Singaporean, young and old. A walk in this park would include whiffs of familiar aromas of much-loved hawker delights like Char Kway Teow, Nasi Lemak, Hokkien Mee, Satay and more. But don’t just smell them, help yourself to the various dishes on offer and end off with popular desserts like Ondeh Ondeh, Kueh Lapis or Ang Ku Kueh. The menu is longer than that but food isn’t all there is at Singapore Community Day. In fact, work up an appetite with the Great Singapore Workout before the feast. And if you’ve forgotten the steps, there’ll be instructors on hand to get you back in the groove!
What’s Singapore without our national songs? Come enjoy ‘Home’ and more with an appearance by New York-based Singaporean singer Ng Chee Yang, champion of Season 1 Campus SuperStar in 2006 and more recently, a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. Joining him at Singapore Community Day will be members of the Bay Area Youth Music Society who will also render familiar tunes on the event grounds.
On the grounds and on stage, put your game face on and participate in the many exciting games, quizzes and family activities that we grew up loving to play like chapteh, five stones, zero point, marbles and more. There are prizes to won! The younger children can spend countless hours enjoying the inflatable giant slide, bounce house, face-painting and bubble-blowing.
Singapore Community Day will also be an event that celebrates the Lunar New Year, so soak in the festivities of an auspicious year ahead with a lion dance performance.
The event will be graced by the Consul-General of the Republic of Singapore in San Francisco, Mr Christopher Cheang.
Register today to join the larger Singaporean community at Singapore Community Day in the San Francisco Bay Area on 28 Feb 2015!
