2017 marks the 50th anniversary of National Service, or NS50, a milestone in our nation-building journey. National Service (NS) has been critical in ensuring the stability of our nation, and NS50 comes at a well-timed juncture for us to recognise the contributions of our national servicemen and women, past and present.
A campaign, titled “We Salute our NSmen” was launched earlier this year by Senior Minister of State for Defence and Deputy President of SAFRA, Dr Mohamad Maliki bin Osman. The campaign encourages the public to show their appreciation for the national servicemen and women in their lives, by posting up photos or videos of themselves in a salute posture onto social media, accompanied with the hashtag #NS50Salute. These visual contributions will be presented on cinemas screens, public spaces and in each SAFRA Club from October till the end of the year.
In conjunction with SAFRA’s NS50 campaign, we would like to encourage fellow Singaporeans living beyond the shores of our island home to offer digital #OSalutes for our defence force.
Here’s how you can show off your appreciation for these national servicemen and women in your best salute posture!
Stand straight, with your feet together
Lift your hand to your eyebrow
Face your palm downwards, with your fingers closed together
Upload your photo onto Facebook with the hashtags #NS50Salute and #OSalutes to pledge your support for our uniformed men and women - feel free to also include a message in your post, or to tag a NSman you know!
We’ll be featuring some of these on our Facebook page, so do share this with your family, friends and your Singaporean community!
